OpenAI Considers Structural Overhaul Amid $150 Billion Valuation Push
OpenAI is exploring structural changes to secure a $150 billion valuation in its new financing round. The move includes removing a profit cap for investors, challenging the company's non-profit foundations. With a $6.5 billion funding goal, prominent investors like Microsoft, Nvidia, and Apple show keen interest.
OpenAI's new financing round is set to be in the form of convertible notes. This round could push the company's valuation to $150 billion, depending on whether it can restructure its corporate framework and remove the profit cap for investors.
Strong investor interest, including from Microsoft, Nvidia, and Apple, could finalize the $6.5 billion funding within two weeks. The restructuring aims to attract more investment for OpenAI's pursuit of artificial general intelligence (AGI).
If the restructuring fails, OpenAI may need to renegotiate its valuation and convert investor shares at a lower value. OpenAI stated its focus on building AI for the benefit of everyone while maintaining non-profit oversight.
