TikTok Triumph: Trump's Temporary Reprieve Breathes New Life into App
TikTok returned to U.S. app stores after President Trump delayed its ban until April 5, ensuring the companies won't face penalties. Following weeks of blackout, TikTok restores services to 170 million American users. The executive order allows for a temporary continuation of operations by ByteDance's app.
TikTok has made its way back to the U.S. app stores of Apple and Google. This development follows President Donald Trump's decision to delay the impending ban on the Chinese-owned app until April 5. The announcement ensures companies will not be fined for distributing or maintaining TikTok, according to Reuters.
The popular app, used by 170 million American users, resumed services weeks after going dark. This move comes as part of Trump's effort to revive access to the app before the inauguration. TikTok, owned by China's ByteDance, did not immediately comment on the development.
An executive order signed last month postponed the ban for 75 days, allowing TikTok to temporarily continue operations in the U.S. App store operators like Apple and Google will not face penalties for keeping the app available to users. Sensor Tower reported TikTok as the second most downloaded app in the U.S., with 52 million downloads in 2024.
