Kyivstar Integrates Starlink for Uninterrupted Wartime Connectivity

Kyivstar has become Europe's first mobile operator to utilize Starlink's direct-to-cell satellite technology amid wartime disruptions in Ukraine. Initially enabling SMS, the service will extend to voice and data next year. It bolsters connectivity during blackouts and in conflict-impacted areas, enhancing communications resilience for 22.5 million users.

Ukraine's leading mobile operator, Kyivstar, has implemented Starlink's direct-to-cell satellite technology, marking Europe's first such deployment. This initiative aims to maintain connectivity amid wartime infrastructure disruption.

Initially providing SMS services, Kyivstar plans to expand to voice and data in a partnership between Starlink and Veon. 'In Ukraine, staying connected means staying safe,' emphasized Kyivstar CEO Oleksandr Komarov, highlighting the service's contribution to network resilience.

With 22.5 million users relying on it, Kyivstar is crucial for communications during blackouts and in newly liberated areas. Kyivstar has enhanced their network's reliability with batteries and generators to maintain services during energy grid disruptions.
