Austria is determined to surpass its previous Winter Olympic achievements as they return to Europe for the Milano Cortina Games, chef de mission Ingemar Mayer announced. With a successful run in Beijing yielding 18 medals, the team hopes to exceed that mark.
Austrian athletes have had extensive preparation over the past four years and found conditions in Italy well-organized, according to Mayer. The team has settled in, with major logistics already in place.
A total of 37 Austrian athletes in Cortina will vie for medals in various sports, including bobsleigh and Alpine skiing. Mayer describes the group as strong with multiple medal contenders, aiming for a repeat of the 2006 Turin Games success.
