As part of its commitment to product and technology innovation, Oppo, a leading global smart device brand, has come up with another design innovation called 'Waterfall Screen' technology, basically a display with ultra-thin or almost no bezels and sharply curved edges.

The official Twitter handle of OPPO and VP Shen Yiren Brian flaunted the waterfall display in a prototype phone with 88-degree curved edges and no buttons visible on either side of the frame.

Also, there is no visible front camera which hints that OPPO may have integrated its Under-Screen Camera (USC) technology that eliminates the need for a dedicated slot or notch on the device. Oppo unveiled its groundbreaking under-display selfie camera technology at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019, last month, in Shanghai.

Using USC technology, the Chinese smartphone maker claims to offer perfect, notchless real full-screen experience to its users. It features a customized camera module that captures more light; zoning control is employed on the screen, together with "highly-transparent" material that enhances transmittance of light through the screen. By integrating the front camera and the screen, USC provides users with a complete view, an immersive screen, and an integrated body. It also enables users to see and capture the entire screen, take photos, use face unlock and make video calls.

Although much information is not available about the phone that showcased this screen technology, the Chinese manufacturer is expected to roll out the device next year. "With the innovative 'Waterfall Screen' design, OPPO will soon deliver an immersive visual experience and innovative aesthetic to users," The Verge quoted OPPO as saying in a press release.

Focused on tapping into the large and growing internet-savvy audience, OPPO constantly strives to redefine the possibilities of a smartphone through frontier technologies. OPPO operates in more than 40 countries and regions, with 6 research institutes and 4 R&D centers worldwide.
