India has emerged as a food surplus nation, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. Addressing the 32nd International Conference of Agricultural Economists (ICAE), he underscored India's role in ensuring global food and nutritional security.
Modi highlighted the significant emphasis on sustainable and climate-resilient farming in the Union Budget 2024-25. He recalled the challenges faced by India during the last ICAE 65 years ago and celebrated India's current status as the world's leading producer of milk, pulses, and spices.
With 1,000 delegates from 70 countries in attendance, Modi stressed India's holistic approach to agriculture and highlighted initiatives like chemical-free farming and digital technology integration. He affirmed India's commitment to sharing agricultural advancements and supporting global food security.
