FCI to Offer 1,448 Tonnes of Rice in Sikkim Under OMSS
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) will sell 1,448 tonnes of rice in Sikkim under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS) on Wednesday. This marks one of the first significant OMSS initiatives in Sikkim post-COVID. Prices are set by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, with distribution managed via e-auction.
The Food Corporation of India (FCI) will initiate the sale of 1,448 tonnes of rice in Sikkim on Wednesday as part of the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS), the organization announced on Tuesday.
According to regional FCI officials, this is one of the major OMSS operations in Sikkim since the COVID-19 pandemic began. The OMSS program aims to control prices and ensure affordability for consumers by offering food grains in the open market at prices fixed by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution through e-auction.
FCI DGM from Kolkata, Sanjay Biswas, indicated that a similar wheat sale under OMSS is expected to commence in West Bengal soon. In the previous fiscal year, FCI sold 7 lakh tonnes of wheat in Bengal under this scheme.
The reserve price for rice in the Sikkim sale is set at Rs 2,800 per quintal for non-fortified rice and Rs 2,873 for fortified rice, with additional taxes and transportation charges applicable. The e-auction for this sale will be conducted on the m-junction platform.
