Congress Criticizes Government Over Growing Trade Deficit with China
The Congress party has criticized the Indian government over a growing trade deficit with China, stating that while other countries have taken measures to curb Chinese imports, the Indian government has failed to do so. They highlighted that India's trade deficit with China surged by 16% from FY22 to FY24.

The Congress has raised strong objections against the central government's handling of the increasing trade deficit with China, asserting that the government has been 'caught napping at the wheels' while other nations have implemented measures to restrain Chinese imports.
According to party general secretary Jairam Ramesh, data presented in the Rajya Sabha revealed a 16% surge in India's trade deficit with China, escalating from USD 73,306.2 million in FY22 to USD 85,079.03 million in FY24.
Ramesh noted that global governments recognize China's industrial overcapacity and the dumping of goods overseas, taking proactive actions to mitigate the issue. Meanwhile, Indian industries are suffering, unable to compete with inexpensive Chinese goods, partly due to what he described as the Prime Minister's lenient stance on China since June 2020.
