Samsung Strike Settles Most Demands, Awaits Union Registration Resolution

Samsung India Electronics has conceded to the majority of demands made by its workers during a strike initiated on September 9, the Tamil Nadu government announced on Wednesday. Authorities requested striking employees to resume work immediately, following recent detentions of some protesters who were released by a magistrate.

A significant unresolved issue is the workers' demand for union registration, which the authorities have not yet accepted due to its political affiliations. Discussions are ongoing between the company and the workers, with Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin noting Samsung's policy against politically affiliated unions.

Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu confirmed that the matter is now in court. Samsung has offered workers a monthly Rs 5,000 incentive, enhanced transport facilities, and additional leave benefits. The Confederation of Indian Industry emphasized the importance of an early resolution to sustain economic momentum.
