The Department of Posts in India is pioneering a groundbreaking initiative by utilizing drones for mail transportation across Arunachal Pradesh's challenging terrain, according to a government announcement on Tuesday.
This cutting-edge pilot program, in collaboration with SKYE AIR Mobility, began on October 21, 2024. It involves delivering mail via drones between Chowkham and Wakro post offices, significantly reducing delivery times from the conventional 2-2.5 hours to a swift 22-24 minutes.
With drones providing environment-friendly, reliable, and real-time tracked mail services, the Department aims to expand this technology to other mountainous regions following successful trials. The move promises to enhance mail delivery, particularly in hard-to-reach areas.
