In the wake of a stampede incident at Bandra Terminus, Western Railway is enforcing stricter luggage policies to curb station overcrowding. Passengers exceeding luggage limits will face penalties, and specific oversize items will not qualify for free carriage, according to a statement released on Tuesday.
The railway authorities are advocating for passengers to avoid unnecessary station visits and adhere to scheduled train times to alleviate platform congestion. These measures also include a stop on platform ticket sales at key stations until November 8, parts of an effort to ensure seamless passenger movement.
The recent surge in parcel bookings due to the festive season has exacerbated congestion issues, with many parcels stored on platforms awaiting loading. In response, Western Railway has directed staff to restrict parcel stacking on platforms, emphasizing passenger safety and operational efficiency.
