Air China Set to Launch COMAC's C929 in Global Aviation Battle
COMAC announces Air China as the launch customer for the C929 widebody aircraft, poised to compete in the global aviation market against Boeing and Airbus. Specifications include a seating capacity of 280 to 400 and a range of 12,000 km. Test flights expected soon as development progresses.
COMAC has declared Air China as the initial client for its much-anticipated C929 widebody aircraft, setting the stage for heightened competition against established giants like Boeing and Airbus. The announcement was made by Liu Yan, COMAC's deputy director of marketing, during China's largest air show held in Zhuhai.
While exact purchase numbers and delivery timelines remain undisclosed, the C929 promises significant capabilities with its high seating capacity and vast range. This aircraft is positioned to rival models like Boeing's 787 Dreamliner. Notably, the aircraft's name was changed from CR929 earlier this year following Russia's exit from a joint venture with China.
According to April reports from the C929's fuselage maker, the first section delivery is targeted for September 2027. In further progression, COMAC's deputy general manager anticipated the prototype's imminent reveal and the possibility of test flights in the near future.
