Railways on Track for 100% Electrification by 2025: Union Minister Vaishnaw

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced a major milestone for Indian Railways, stating that it will achieve 100% electrification by the fiscal year 2025-26. The initiative is part of a broader effort to transition the railways towards net-zero emissions by 2030, reflecting significant developments in sustainable infrastructure.
Speaking at the MP Global Investors Summit 2025, Minister Vaishnaw highlighted the signing of a power purchase agreement with Madhya Pradesh as a critical step in this direction. The agreement, involving 170 MW of renewable energy, underlines the government's commitment to reducing dependence on traditional power sources and emphasizing renewable energy.
Over 97% electrification has been completed so far, with plans to acquire more power from renewable sources, including wind and potentially nuclear energy. The minister also reported a substantial increase in railway infrastructure development in Madhya Pradesh, with construction rates significantly rising and funds substantially increased since 2014.
