The AirCare helicopter was not transporting any patients at the time of its crash in Madison County, located north of Jackson, Mississippi's capital. According to an earlier statement by the university, the families of the victims have been informed; however, names have not been disclosed out of respect for their privacy.
While the cause of the crash remains unknown, the Federal Aviation Administration is expected to arrive to initiate an investigation.
