Tata Steel Meramandali (TSM) has unveiled a fleet of 20 electric buses in Odisha's Dhenkanal, as part of its eco-friendly transport initiative for employees. This move is expected to slash carbon emissions by 500 tonnes of CO2 per year, a significant step towards Tata Steel's objective of achieving net zero emissions by 2045, according to a company statement.
The initiative will see these electric buses operating within the plant's premises, facilitating daily intra-plant employee movements in its initial phase. These efforts underline Tata Steel's green commitment across its value chain.
Corporate Services Vice President, Chanakya Chaudhary, emphasized that the electric buses and the accompanying bus bay mark a further commitment to sustainability. These buses, which feature two charging stations equipped with 12 charging units each, are designed with cutting-edge battery systems and a variety of sustainable attributes, further enhancing employee convenience and transport efficiency.
