India and Singapore took a significant step forward in maritime innovation by signing a Letter of Intent (LoI) focusing on the establishment of a Green and Digital Shipping Corridor. The agreement, announced during Singapore Maritime Week, aims to enhance cooperation between the countries, pushing forward the twin goals of digitalization and decarbonization.
The initiative is set to accelerate the adoption of zero or near-zero greenhouse gas emission technologies from both nations, fostering a more sustainable and efficient shipping industry. Under the LoI, both countries will work towards formalizing this partnership through a memorandum of understanding, expanding cooperation to include over 28 stakeholders within the maritime, energy, and finance sectors.
Minister Sarbananda Sonowal emphasized the enhanced partnership's potential in strengthening ties, while Singapore's dedication to advancing maritime innovation was reaffirmed. This comes as India positions itself as a leader in tech and potential major producer of green marine fuels, aided by Singapore's strategic role as a transshipment and innovation hub.
