The damaged cargo ship Solong, which collided with a US tanker carrying jet fuel in the North Sea, has finally made its way to the Scottish port of Aberdeen. The vessel's arrival comes after a significant fire incident that extended for nearly a week.
Chief coastguard Paddy O'Callaghan confirmed that the Solong reached Aberdeen with the assistance of tugboats, emphasizing its safe berthing for an extensive damage assessment. The collision involved the anchored tanker MV Stena Immaculate.
The ship's Russian captain, Vladimir Motin, is now in custody, facing 'gross negligence manslaughter' charges related to the presumed death of crew member Mark Angelo Pernia. Meanwhile, environmental concerns arise as plastic nurdles from Solong's ruptured containers are being cleared from English beaches.
