In an innovative leap towards digitizing fare collection and minimizing paper pass usage, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is poised to launch a smart card-based ticketing system within a month, officials have confirmed.

The initiative will empower commuters with the convenience of contactless smart card payments, along with options including mobile payments, QR codes, debit, credit cards, and the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), as shared by Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh in a conversation with PTI.

Designed to streamline travel for passengers and cut down inefficiencies linked to paper systems, the project is up and running at Rajghat, Hasanpur, and Kalkaji depots, according to Singh. Overseeing the project is the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS), which will distribute the contactless cards for a nominal fee of Rs 50. Though the issuance cost is Rs 71, DIMTS will cover part of the expense, and subsequent pass renewals will cost Rs 14.
