In response to the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal led a crucial review of major maritime projects on Friday. His aim was to guarantee the uninterrupted movement of cargo, a statement from the ministry confirmed.
The review encompassed various key organisations under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways. Significant attention was given to the Shipping Corporation of India (SCI), a cornerstone in the nation's maritime strategy. Discussions revolved around current operations and long-term strategies to enhance self-reliance and capacity.
Additionally, the minister emphasized accelerating the Greenfield Mega Port project at Vadhavan and assessed progress on international ventures such as Chabahar and Sittwe Ports. This scrutiny reflects India's ambition to expand its maritime reach, aligned with Vision 2047.
