At least 39 fatalities resulted from a high-speed train collision in southern Spain. The crash involved two trains on the Malaga-Madrid route. Emergency services continue recovery efforts, with the death toll expected to rise. Investigations into the accident's cause are ongoing.
Spanish authorities confirmed the death of at least 39 individuals following a high-speed train collision in the country's south. The tragic event occurred late Sunday, involving two trains on the route from Malaga to Madrid.
Emergency services remain at the scene near Adamuz, Cordoba, where efforts to recover bodies are underway. The crash involved the derailment of a train with 300 passengers, which collided with another train travelling from Madrid to Huelva. Consequently, the first two carriages were thrown down a slope, resulting in the highest number of fatalities.
Transport Minister Oscar Puente described the event as "truly strange," given the flat stretch of renovated track. An investigation is ongoing, with results expected within a month. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his condolences and planned a site visit.
