Tragic Swiss Bus Fire Sparks Investigations
Six people died and three were injured in a bus fire in Kerzers, Switzerland, possibly set intentionally by someone onboard. Authorities are investigating whether it was a deliberate act, while a man reportedly set himself on fire. Swiss President Guy Parmelin conveyed condolences, as investigations continue.
At least six individuals tragically lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries following a devastating bus fire in Kerzers, a small town in western Switzerland, police confirmed on Tuesday. Authorities are exploring the possibility of a deliberate act after reports indicated a passenger may have set themselves on fire.
Frederic Papaux, spokesperson for the Fribourg police, noted that initial elements suggest intentionality. Local police spokesperson Christa Bielmann stated that investigations are ongoing, and it is too soon to determine if the incident is terror-related. Romain Collaud, a state councillor, assured that there are no current indications of a terrorist attack.
Onlookers reported panic as passengers fled the flame-engulfed vehicle, with Swiss media sharing footage of a bystander claiming a man ignited himself. President Guy Parmelin expressed sorrow and pledged full investigation. This incident follows a bar fire in January in Crans Montana, which claimed 41 lives.
