LPG Supply Crunch Sparks Widespread Disruption in Bengal

The ongoing LPG supply crisis in West Bengal is causing considerable disruption across multiple sectors, including transport, gastronomy, and education. The shortage has led to increased costs and operational changes, especially for auto-rickshaws and eateries. Despite government promises of increased allocation, improvement remains unseen.

The scarcity of LPG cylinders continues to disturb everyday operations across West Bengal, as no substantial recovery is reported. Key sectors like transport and gastronomy are heavily impacted, with businesses adjusting prices and practices to cope with the shortage.

Bijan Biswas of the Indane LPG Distributors' Association noted that while panic bookings have decreased, prolonged delivery times remain a significant obstacle. The government's reduction of LPG allocation by 30% since March has exacerbated the issue, elongating the delivery cycle between cylinders to at least 25 days.

Auto-rickshaw fares and restaurant operations have been notably affected, with many food establishments reducing menus and exploring alternative fuel options due to inadequate supply, prompting a reliance on black market purchases. Even schools are forced to adjust mid-day meal programs due to the crisis.
