Vietjet's Strategic Leap: New Aircraft Lease Fuels Vietnam-China Connectivity
Vietjet, Vietnam's budget airline, has secured a finance lease for 10 COMAC C909 aircraft with China's SPDB Financial Leasing. This strategic agreement is part of Vietjet's expansion and introduction of Chinese-made aircraft on Vietnam-China routes, enhancing economic and aviation ties between the countries.
In a significant move to bolster aviation ties with China, Vietnam's budget airline Vietjet announced a finance lease agreement for 10 COMAC C909 narrow-body aircraft with SPDB Financial Leasing. The deal was revealed during a state visit to China by Vietnam's newly elected President To Lam.
While exact financial terms remain undisclosed, the agreement represents a strategic expansion for Vietjet, enabling the airline to utilize Chinese-made COMAC aircraft on routes between Vietnam and China. This development aligns with Vietjet's broader strategy to strengthen regional connectivity and increase its operational capacity.
Currently operating 135 aircraft, primarily Airbus models, Vietjet has nearly 600 aircraft on order from Boeing and Airbus. The new lease will support planned route expansions, including connections between Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and key Chinese destinations like Hangzhou and Guilin.
