The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has disclosed crucial data this week regarding the tragic China Eastern Airlines flight that crashed in March 2022. The information, sourced from the aircraft's flight data recorder, reveals that the fuel supply to both engines was switched off before the jet crashed, killing all 132 on board.
The NTSB report specifies that while the plane was cruising at 29,000 feet, the fuel switches on both engines were moved from the run position to the cutoff position, which is believed to have led to the disaster. The switches are physical controls on Boeing 737 aircraft and must be pulled upwards before making the movement from run to cutoff.
This tragic incident is marked as China's deadliest air disaster in decades. Despite this significant finding, Chinese regulators have not released a comprehensive report on their investigation, which remains incomplete more than two years later. Key organizations, including the Civil Aviation Administration of China and China Eastern Airlines, have yet to comment on the NTSB's recent report.
