Amul Milk Prices Surge: A Boost for Farmers Amid Rising Costs
The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) announces a Rs 2 per litre increase in Amul milk prices, effective May 14, citing rising production and operational costs. The price revision, the first since May 2025, aims to support farmers by passing benefits directly to milk producers.
In a significant move affecting consumers nationwide, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), responsible for marketing Amul-brand dairy products, has announced a Rs 2 per litre hike in the price of fresh pouch milk. This change, applicable to major variants and packs, takes effect from May 14, according to a federation press release.
The GCMMF explained that the adjustment, translating to an increase of roughly 2.5 to 3.5 per cent, comes after a long period of price stability since May 2025. The federation attributed the decision to heightened production and operational costs, acknowledging a substantial rise in the expenses of cattle feed, milk packaging, and fuel.
Furthermore, GCMMF highlighted that member unions have increased procurement prices paid to farmers, enhancing it by Rs 30 per kg of fat, marking a 3.7 per cent uptick compared to two years ago. By redistributing 80 paise of every rupee from sales to milk producers, this price hike seeks to both sustain remunerative returns and stimulate higher milk output from producers.
