American Airlines Resumes Flights to Haiti: Breaking New Grounds
American Airlines announced the resumption of flights to Haiti, specifically Cap-Haitien, starting November 1. This development follows a prolonged suspension due to security concerns. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration had previously restricted flights to Port-au-Prince but has allowed service to other northern airports in Haiti.
American Airlines, the first U.S. carrier to resume service to Haiti, will restart flights to Cap-Haitien this fall, precisely on November 1. The major airline's decision comes after a suspension in late 2024 by several carriers due to rising safety concerns in the region.
The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration halted flights to the Haitian capital, Port-au-Prince, citing risks from armed groups affecting civil aviation. Although this ban remains in effect for Port-au-Prince, the FAA has permitted services to six other northern airports in Haiti.
This move marks a significant step towards reconnecting Haiti with international travelers and potentially boosts tourism and economic recovery efforts.
