Students Demand Probe into NEET Exam Irregularities

Members of Left-affiliated students' unions protested near the education ministry demanding an investigation into alleged NEET exam irregularities. The National Testing Agency has formed a panel to review the issue. Students and political parties are concerned about the fairness of the exam amid allegations of inflated scores.

On Monday, members of Left-affiliated students' unions staged a protest near the education ministry, demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged irregularities in the NEET exam, according to a statement.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Saturday that the education ministry had established a four-member panel to review grace marks awarded to over 1,500 candidates.

This action comes amid controversy over alleged score inflation, with 67 candidates achieving the highest rank in the NEET-UG medical entrance exam. In response, student leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union vice president Avijit Ghosh are calling for a fair and transparent examination system. “The student community stands united in demanding a secure exam system to safeguard the integrity of entrance tests,” Ghosh added.

The NTA denied any irregularities, attributing higher scores to changes in the NCERT textbooks and grace marks for lost time at examination centers. However, the issue has sparked significant political debate, with multiple parties expressing concerns over the exam's authenticity and the future of over 24 lakh aspiring medical students.
