Language Policy Clash: Centre vs. Tamil Nadu

The ongoing conflict between the BJP-led Centre and Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK over the National Education Policy and the imposition of a three-language system intensifies. Both parties are firm on their stances, with the DMK emphasizing Tamil Nadu's historical opposition to Hindi imposition and demanding its due share of central funds.

The language dispute between the BJP-led Centre and Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK escalated on Friday as Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan urged the southern state to transcend political disputes. The DMK retaliated, reiterating its commitment to a two-language policy amid pressures to adopt the National Education Policy (NEP).

Pradhan criticized Chief Minister M K Stalin, accusing him of framing progressive reforms as threats, purportedly to sustain his political narrative. Tensions stem from the perceived imposition of Hindi under the NEP, reminiscent of the historic anti-Hindi agitation in 1965. Opposition party AIADMK also voiced criticisms towards the Centre's educational policies.

The BJP's Tamil Nadu unit fueled the conflict with a "GetOutStalin" campaign, criticizing the DMK's governance. Concurrently, the DMK echoed its demand for central funds without adhering to NEP mandates, stressing Tamil Nadu’s right to its bilingual policy. Protests and further political maneuvering continue to unfold over the contentious language policy.
