In the wake of Supreme Court's alarming concerns regarding student suicides, IIT Kharagpur Director Suman Chakraborty announced initiatives to combat mental health crises among students on Tuesday.
The announcement follows Monday's Supreme Court scrutiny of suicide cases at institutions such as IIT Kharagpur and Sharda University. The apex court directed investigations to be conducted promptly.
Responding to court directives, Chakraborty revealed plans to appoint a full-time psychiatrist and initiate motivational lecture series. These steps aim to reduce stress and anticipate students' mental health needs. Previously, counselling services were managed by part-time faculty members.
