A new report by TeamLease Edtech has unveiled a stark disconnect between higher education institutions and industry readiness in India. According to the study titled 'From Degree Factories to Employability Hubs,' only 16.67% of institutions achieve high placement rates within six months of graduation.
The report identifies a significant structural issue in curriculum relevance, with just 8.6% of programs fully aligned with industry needs. Shantanu Rooj, CEO of TeamLease Edtech, emphasized the underlying system design challenge, urging curriculum co-creation with industry and stronger employer partnerships.
Furthermore, the report underscores gaps in experiential learning and alumni network engagement, key components for job readiness. It highlights the need for mandatory internships and live industry projects to bolster practical skills and improve employment outcomes.
