The wife of retired IPS officer Vinay Ranjan Ray was allegedly killed by a Nepali gang with the help of a domestic help at their residence in the wee hours of Friday, police said. Tanuja (62) was murdered around 2 am. The body was found on the first floor of the multi-storey building in Prashasan Nagar, Jubilee Hills, a posh locality here. Ray, a DG-rank officer who retired from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, was out of station, and their children were on the upper floor of the house, police said. The culprits allegedly smothered Tanuja to death and decamped with valuables from the house. The stolen items are being ascertained. Special teams have been formed to detect the case and apprehend the accused. Police in other states, as well as the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), have been alerted, police sources told PTI. The domestic help from Nepal, who was employed at the house for the past year, has been absconding since the incident, they said. Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar, who inspected the scene of the offence, said, citing preliminary investigation, that a Nepali gang is suspected to be behind the murder. He described the crime as a suspected murder-for-gain case. Such Nepali gangs are involved in property-related offences in different parts of the country, he said. ''Some clues have been found, and based on them, police teams are working on the case,'' he said. The gang allegedly committed the offence in collusion with the woman's domestic help in the house, Sajjanar further said. The victim's hands were tied, and her mouth was gagged with a cloth, leading to death by suffocation, police said. Telangana DGP C V Anand and several senior police officials visited the house, and an investigation is underway. There is no need for the public to panic over such crimes, the Commissioner said, adding that those who have employed people from Nepal in their homes should keep a watch on them. He said people should remain alert and ensure proper background verification while hiring domestic workers. He expressed confidence that the gang will soon be nabbed. Police have registered a murder-for-gain case.
