In a significant development, the Supreme Court has ruled to make the Rajasthani language compulsory in schools across Rajasthan. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot hailed the decision as a historic milestone for the cultural education of the state’s youth.
Gehlot recalled the Congress government's initial efforts in 2003 to advocate for constitutional recognition of Rajasthani, encompassing several dialects such as Marwari and Mewati. The initiative aimed to promote education in the mother tongue, strengthening children's cultural connections with their heritage.
The former Chief Minister urged the central government to expedite the process of including Rajasthani in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. This inclusion, Gehlot argued, would officially recognize its significance and reinforce cultural identity among future generations.
