JTBC's new survival show, Peak Time, is creating a buzz among K-Pop fans as it features male idol groups battling it out to become the next "worldwide idol group." Peak Time Episode 9 is set to release on April 5, 2023, the show's format is different from other audition programs. It brings together male idols who have already debuted, whether active or part of disbanded groups, who compete under temporary group names corresponding to different hours of the day.
The K-Pop industry is notoriously volatile, with idol groups experiencing both soaring success and devastating lows. As global attention turns to South Korea's music industry, there are new opportunities for these artists, but they also face new risks and challenges. Peak Time offers a second chance to K-Pop idols who have faced major setbacks, such as the pandemic, and couldn't survive past difficult times. It is the first Idol audition program where dormant or disbanded teams come together to compete as boy bands and artists, giving them a chance to perform on stage again and gain more popularity.
Lee Seungi, who is much-loved by fans, hosts Peak Time, bringing his signature charm and wit to the show while keeping rising tensions under control and the entertainment level high. With a whopping ₩300 million cash prize, album release, and international exposure on offer, the stakes are high for the competing teams to become the next "worldwide idol group."
The ongoing survival show provides contestants with the opportunity to receive guidance from some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Cho Kyu Hyun (Super Junior), Jay Park, Tiffany Young (Girls' Generation), Lee Gi Kwang (Highlight), Kim Sung Gyu (Infinite), Ryan S Juhn, Song Min Ho (WINNER), and Moon Byul (Mamamoo), who appear as judges on the show. Additionally, world-class experts in producing, performing, and visual directing are on hand to guide the teams and help them showcase their best efforts on screen. Lee Seungi, a popular celebrity, hosts Peak Time, ensuring that the competition remains exciting and intense while also maintaining a level of control.
In Peak Time Episode 8, the participating teams are introduced to their third mission, "The New Song Battle," where the teams perform a brand new, freshly produced song of their own to compete and charm the audience. All ten teams are divided into two leagues - A and B, with five teams in each league. The super performances of league B's teams include:
Team 8:00 (DKB) with "Coco Colada,"
Team 23:00 (DGNA) with "Chamomile,"
Team 15:00 (BLK) with "Nothin' without you,"
Team 13:00 (BAE173) with "Criminal"
In the latest rankings, both 8:00 (DKB) and 23:00 (DGNA) teams secured the top spot by earning an equal number of 8 votes each.
