The Kerala government on Thursday announced plans to set up a zoo-cum-safari park in Taliparamba, Kannur district. This decision emerged from a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, attended by ministers K Rajan, A K Saseendran, and P Prasad.
The proposed park will leverage land owned by the Plantation Corporation, designed to let animals and birds roam freely in a natural forest environment instead of cages. Tourists will navigate the park in armoured vehicles.
The park will also host a botanical garden, a rainwater tank, and a natural history museum. The Agriculture Department has sanctioned 256 acres for the project and the Revenue Department aims to finalize procedures within 10 days. Employees of the Plantation Corporation will be transitioned to work at the park.
