Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Thursday that the state is making a vigorous effort to list 12 pivotal forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the World Heritage sites register.
Shinde emphasized that these forts are historical touchstones, reflecting more than just architectural grandeur, but serving as sources of inspiration.
The state's cultural affairs department and the Directorate of Archaeology and Museums are leading this initiative. Their recent meeting, held at the Sahyadri guest house, underlined the significance of these forts, including Salher, Shivneri, Raigad, and Rajgad, among others. The proposal aims to highlight Maharashtra's rich military landscape heritage on a global stage.
