Netflix India has revised the opening disclaimer for its recent series 'IC814: The Kandahar Hijack' after facing backlash over the hijackers' code names. The update aims to clarify the real and code names used during the infamous 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814.
Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content at Netflix India, emphasized the importance of authentic storytelling and noted the inclusion of both real and code names in the updated disclaimer. The move follows her discussion with Information and Broadcasting Secretary Sanjay Jaju in New Delhi over concerns about the show's portrayal of hijackers.
Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the series, inspired by Captain Devi Sharan and Srinjoy Chowdhury's book 'Flight Into Fear,' features notable actors like Vijay Varma, Patralekhaa, and Pankaj Kapur. Despite the controversy, many survivors and journalists support the accurate depiction of code names in the show.
