Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Pune on Thursday was cancelled due to severe weather conditions, officials confirmed. The PM was anticipated to inaugurate the new Metro train line and unveil development projects valued at Rs 22,600 crore.
The cancellation follows heavy rainfall in Pune on Wednesday evening, which left the event venue, SP College ground, waterlogged. The MeT department has forecasted further heavy showers for both Pune and Mumbai on Thursday.
Pune divisional commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar stated that the visit has been postponed. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar inspected the site to ensure public safety amidst the hazardous weather conditions.
