Operation Diwali: Honoring a Hero's Legacy with Sweet Remembrance
Classmates of Col Santosh Mahadik, who died combating terrorists in Kashmir in 2015, have sent 300 kg of sweets to his former unit, 41 Rashtriya Rifles, every Diwali. Celebrating his legacy, they call the initiative 'Operation Diwali' to honor Mahadik's bravery and leadership.

In a heartfelt tribute to their fallen friend, classmates of Colonel Santosh Mahadik have once again orchestrated 'Operation Diwali', sending 300 kilograms of sweets to the soldiers of the 41 Rashtriya Rifles, the unit once led by Mahadik.
Col Mahadik, the Commanding Officer known for his valor, succumbed to injuries sustained during an encounter with terrorists in Kupwara, Kashmir, in 2015. His classmates, who include both serving and retired officers, have kept his memory alive by sending Diwali sweets since 2016.
The distribution, facilitated by Col Giridhar Kole (Retd), underscores the sacrifices made by soldiers like Mahadik, who was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra. Remembered as an all-rounder, Mahadik's legacy continues to inspire his comrades and students of Sainik School Satara, Maharashtra.
