In the context of recent terror attacks in Pahalgam and Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed concerns over the declining tourism sector in the region for 2025. Abdullah remains optimistic, however, anticipating that snowfall could potentially revitalize the valley's tourism industry.
Abdullah highlighted the importance of precipitation, pointing out that areas like Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Sonamarg, and Srinagar stand to gain from early snowfall. 'The key to increasing footfall is snowfall,' he reiterated at a tourism event, emphasizing efforts on government-led promotions and marketing strategies aimed at attracting more visitors.
The incidents causing tourism challenges include an April attack in Baisaran meadows of Pahalgam, which resulted in 26 deaths, and a November car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi taking 15 lives. Despite lower tourist numbers, Abdullah is hopeful for a rise in visitors around Christmas and New Year.
