The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) is set to honor the first death anniversary of the revered tabla maestro, Zakir Hussain, with an event spanning two days. The commemoration will be a grand affair, bringing together 50 international and national artists to pay tribute to his enduring musical legacy.
Among those announcing the event were NCPA, John McLaughlin, Shankar Mahadevan, V. Selvaganesh, and Ganesh Rajagopalan. They were joined by Hussain's wife, Antonia Minnecola, and brother, Taufiq Qureshi. Hussain, who passed away last year in a San Francisco hospital on December 15 at the age of 73, left an indelible mark on the world of music.
The tribute will include performances, talks, and a photo exhibition, as well as screenings of documentaries highlighting Hussain's journey. Notable participants include McLaughlin, Louis Banks, Dave Holland, and Amjad Ali Khan, among others. Organizers and family reveal that his dream institute has been established posthumously, carrying forward his mission to support young artists.
