On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin extended Eid ul-Fitr greetings to millions of Muslims across the nation. In Moscow, more than 200,000 people assembled for prayers at four mosques, marking the major Islamic festival.
The President emphasized the holiday's embodiment of moral improvement, mercy, and compassion, values central to Islam. He praised Russian Muslims for respecting their historical and cultural traditions, and for widely celebrating the holiday through community and family gatherings.
Putin acknowledged the role of Muslim organizations in strengthening familial bonds, youth education, and engaging in government dialogue. He also thanked Muslims for their participation in the military campaign in Ukraine, where Eid ul-Fitr remains a public holiday. With around 25 million Muslims in the country, including many migrants from former Soviet states, the holiday is significant nationwide.
