Police in Georgia used tear gas and stun grenades late on Wednesday to disperse demonstrators outside Parliament opposed to a law on "foreign agents" that they and Western countries denounce as authoritarian.

Police intervened as a crowd of protesters, estimated at as many as 40,000, gathered in the capital after Parliament approved the law in second reading.
