Inflation in the UK has held steady at the Bank of England's target rate of 2% for the year up to June, according to official figures revealed on Wednesday. This stability may prompt policymakers to consider cutting borrowing costs next month.
The Office for National Statistics reported that the main upward pressure on the annualized inflation rate came from restaurants and hotels, partially linked to Taylor Swift's UK tour. Conversely, widespread sales in clothing and footwear contributed the most significant downward pressure.
Earnings and wage increases, particularly in the services sector, keep the Bank of England cautious about future inflationary pressures. A close decision is expected on whether to reduce the main interest rate from 5.25% on August 1.
