The Delhi Police have apprehended a third suspect in connection with the fatal shooting inside a ward at Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital. The suspect, identified as Moin (19) from Laxmi Garden, Loni Gaziabad, was arrested on Wednesday, officials reported.
The shooting incident took place on Sunday, with victim Riyazuddin fatally shot within the hospital premises. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shahdara, Surendra Chaudhary, confirmed Moin's significant involvement, describing him as a key conspirator in the case.
DCP Chaudhary detailed Moin's role, stating that he conducted reconnaissance for four days leading up to the incident, assisted in hiding the motorcycle used, and was part of an alternative escape plan. Previously, two other individuals had been detained.
The crime was registered by the Delhi Police on July 14, based on a statement from Tarranum Malik, Riyazuddin's sister. Charges fall under section 103(1), 3(5) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act at GTB Enclave Police Station. Malik's statement indicated her brother was shot by an unknown assailant while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
Investigative efforts included reviewing nearby CCTV footage, which revealed four suspects entering through the hospital's emergency gate. Another patient in the same ward, previously shot in June, suggested a conflict with the Hasim Baba gang may have led to a mistaken identity and wrongful death.
Through video and social media analysis, Faiz (20) from Loni, Ghaziabad, was identified and detained. Subsequent interrogation revealed Faheem, alias Badshah Khan, as the mastermind directing the group. Instructions were given to target a different patient, not Riyazuddin, with escape plans detailed post-assault. Faheem's flat in Babar Pur, Delhi, served as the planning ground.
Faiz and Moin Khan executed the crime and returned to Loni, explained officials. Both suspects remain in custody, with investigations ongoing. (ANI)
