Kerala's Wayanad is facing a grave situation after severe landslides caused massive destruction and loss of lives. Four National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are working tirelessly on rescue missions, as confirmed by NDRF Director General Piyush Anand. 'We responded immediately. The situation is still unfolding. It's a very bad disaster,' he told ANI.

Anand highlighted the complications that arose, including a vital bridge being washed away, compelling teams to cross high currents and establish a rescue center in challenging conditions laden with mud and slush. Heavy equipment had to be manually carried across these terrains.

In addition to the NDRF's four teams in Wayanad, 12 teams are operating statewide in Kerala. The Indian Army and Air Force are also aiding in rescue efforts, including building a Bailey bridge and airlifting food supplies to stranded individuals. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan emphasized the urgency of rescuing missing persons and announced that rehabilitation efforts would commence promptly.

The Kerala Revenue Department reported two major landslides in the early hours of July 30 in Mundakkai and Churalmala, leading to over 200 confirmed deaths and extensive injuries. NDRF DIG Mohsen Shahidi confirmed ongoing recovery of bodies following this catastrophic event.
