Yogi Adityanath Vows Justice After Gomtinagar Harassment Incident

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath prioritizes women's safety following the Gomtinagar harassment incident. Multiple police officials have been suspended, and arrests made in connection with the case. Additional suspects are being pursued.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized that women's safety remains a top priority for his administration. Addressing the Assembly on Thursday, Adityanath assured stringent punishment for those involved in the Gomtinagar harassment incident.

The statement followed a viral video showing a couple being harassed by revellers on a bike in Gomtinagar, Lucknow. Consequently, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Additional DCP, and Assistant Commissioner of Police for Gomtinagar have been suspended. Adityanath asserted that any attempts at creating anarchy would be met with severe consequences.

The couple was harassed near a flooded underpass close to the Hotel Taj in Gomtinagar. Following the incident, senior officers and constables were suspended. Congress MLA Aradhana Mishra raised the issue in the Assembly. Four suspects—Pawan Yadav, Sunil Kumar, Mohammad Arbaaz, and Viraj Sahu—were arrested and charged under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. A manhunt for additional suspects is underway.
