BJP MLC Urges PM Modi to Halt AMU's Islamic History Curriculum

BJP MLC Manvendra Pratap Singh has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take action against Aligarh Muslim University's decision to include Islamic history in its curriculum. Singh argues that the move contradicts the National Education Policy and calls for a focus on India's history instead.

BJP MLC of the Agra Graduates constituency in Uttar Pradesh, Manvendra Pratap Singh, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding intervention in Aligarh Muslim University's (AMU) decision to introduce Islamic history in its curriculum for the 2024-2025 academic year.

The history courses in question cover the period from pre-Islamic Arabia to the Pious Caliphate and from the Umayyads to the Abbasids. Singh criticized the move, saying it replaces the National Education Policy with an Islamic-centric syllabus. He pointed out that AMU, being a government-funded institution, should not teach Islamic history to the exclusion of Sikhism, Jainism, and Hinduism.

Singh expressed concerns that this curriculum change undermines India's National Education Policy and requested the Prime Minister to ensure that India's comprehensive history is taught instead. He emphasized that Islamic history should be banned from the curriculum to maintain national unity and educational integrity.
