Manish Sisodia Released on Bail After 17 Months in Tihar Jail

Manish Sisodia has been granted bail and released from Tihar Jail following a Supreme Court order in the Delhi Excise policy cases. The release comes after approximately 17 months of judicial custody.

The Rouse Avenue court on Friday issued a warrant for the release of Manish Sisodia from Tihar Jail. He was granted bail by the Supreme Court in the Delhi Excise policy CBI and ED cases after being in custody for about 17 months.

Special Judge Kaveri Baweja approved the bail and surety bonds in both cases, with AAP MLA Prahlad Singh Sahni, Roshan Chauhan, Gaurav Singh Raghav, and MCD councillor Punardeep Singh Sahni furnishing a surety of Rs. 10 lakh each for Sisodia.

The court allowed the CBI time until August 14 to paginate the charge sheet, followed by an inspection by the counsel for the accused. The next hearing is scheduled for August 21 at 12 PM.

Earlier in the day, Special Judge Kaveri Baweja extended the judicial custody of Sisodia, K Kavitha, and other accused. However, the Supreme Court's bail order facilitated Sisodia's release in the Delhi Excise policy cases.

The accused, including Sisodia, were produced via video conferencing. Sisodia was initially arrested by the CBI on February 26 and later by the ED in March 2023. His prior bail applications were rejected by both the trial court and the Delhi High Court.
