Lockheed Martin and Tata Advanced Systems Forge Alliance for C-130J Super Hercules Project

Lockheed Martin and Tata Advanced Systems Ltd announced a partnership to enhance manufacturing capabilities in India for the C-130J Super Hercules tactical airlifter. The agreement aims to support India's Medium Transport Aircraft program, deepen India-US defense ties, and establish a maintenance and overhaul facility in India.

In a substantial move to bolster India's military transport capabilities, prominent US defense firm Lockheed Martin and India's Tata Advanced Systems Ltd revealed on Tuesday a 'teaming agreement.' This initiative focuses on expanding their collaboration through the C-130J Super Hercules tactical airlifter project.

The significant announcement followed India's Defense Minister Rajnath Singh's recent visit to the US, where both nations committed to strengthening defense ties. This partnership is expected to expand the manufacturing and assembly of the C-130J in India for the Indian Air Force's (IAF) Medium Transport Aircraft program, pending government approvals from both countries.

The collaboration also includes setting up a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility in India to support the existing fleet of C-130Js operated by the IAF as well as other global Super Hercules fleets. This agreement marks an important step in enhancing India's defense and aerospace capabilities, reaffirming the strategic partnership between India and the US.
