On Thursday night, parts of Chennai experienced blackouts due to a fire at the Manali 400/230kV substation, resulting in sequential faults in both feeders. The disruption caused power outages across the city, lasting up to three hours before restoration efforts began.

Officials reported that the power supply was resumed by stepping up 230KV to 400KV and rerouting it through Pulianthope. Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) confirmed the swift response and subsequent restoration measures via a post on X.

By 6 am on Friday, TANGEDCO had rectified the fault at NCTPS II and normalized the power feed through the Manali substation. South Chennai MP Tamilachi Thangapandiyan reassured residents, urging them to remain vigilant and patient during the restoration process.
